Does a Spray-In Liner Affect Insurance or Factory Warranty?

A quick reference for Ontario truck owners, before you book.

A spray-in bed liner does not void your factory warranty on its own. The rest of the truck stays covered exactly as before. For insurance, a liner counts as an aftermarket addition: tell your broker, keep the receipt, and ask whether your policy covers aftermarket equipment. Our lifetime warranty covers the liner itself.

Factory warranty

Installing a spray-in liner does not cancel your truck's warranty. Powertrain, electrical, and every other part of the truck are covered the same way they were before.

With any aftermarket product, a manufacturer can decline a specific claim if they can show that the aftermarket work caused that specific problem. For a bed liner, the only area where this is likely to come up is corrosion on the bed itself. Two things help:

  • Good prep. We sand and prime the factory paint rather than stripping it, and we treat any rust spots we find before spraying.
  • A record. We photograph every bed before we start, and you get a receipt that shows what was done and when.

If you want certainty, read the corrosion or perforation section of your warranty booklet, or ask your dealer's service department before booking. Wording varies between manufacturers.

Auto insurance

A liner does not usually change your premium, but it is aftermarket equipment. Many Ontario auto policies treat aftermarket equipment differently from what came on the truck, and some cap what they will pay to replace it after a covered loss.

  • Tell your broker or insurer the truck has a spray-in liner.
  • Keep your receipt with the truck's paperwork.
  • Ask whether aftermarket equipment is covered, and up to what amount.

We are not an insurance broker. Your broker is the right person to confirm what your policy covers. If they ask for details, your receipt lists the bed size, the finish and the price paid, which is usually all they need.

Leased and financed trucks

A liner is permanent and cannot be removed at the end of a lease. If your truck is leased, check the lease terms on alterations before booking. Most finance agreements on a purchased truck do not restrict a bed liner, but if you are unsure, a quick call to the lender settles it.

The warranty lasts for as long as you own the truck. If the liner peels, cracks or delaminates, we repair it free at our Huntsville shop. Normal lightening of the standard finish in the sun is cosmetic and not a defect.

Quick answers

Will the dealer refuse warranty work because of a liner?

Not for parts of the truck the liner has nothing to do with. If you are concerned about bed corrosion coverage, ask the dealer before booking.

Does a liner help at resale?

It can make the truck easier to sell, since the bed under it has been protected. Keep the receipt to show buyers.
