Both finishes use the same pure polyurea liner, 2.5 mm on the floor and tailgate and about 2 mm on the walls. The UV finish adds an aliphatic topcoat that keeps the bed dark in the sun. Standard can lighten over time, which is cosmetic only. UV adds $190, and both are done the same day.
What the standard liner is
Our standard liner is pure aromatic polyurea, sprayed hot at high pressure over sanded and primed factory paint. Aromatic polyurea is the workhorse of the bed liner world because it is tough and resists abrasion well. Its one weakness is sunlight. Over time, UV exposure can make the surface chalk and lighten, so a black bed can drift toward a dull grey.
That change is on the surface. It does not make the liner thinner, softer or less protective. It is a looks question, not a strength question.
How fast it happens depends on how much sun the truck sees. A truck parked in a garage every night and covered by a tonneau may barely change. A truck that sits in an open driveway or a cottage lot from May to October will show it sooner. This is true of aromatic liners from every brand, not something particular to ours.
What the UV topcoat adds
The UV option adds a thin aliphatic topcoat over the liner. Aliphatic coatings are the type used where colour has to hold up outdoors. The topcoat goes on the same day, so a UV bed is still a one-day job.
It costs $190 on top of the standard price. That makes a UV bed $789 for a 5.5 or 6.5 ft bed and $839 for an 8 ft bed, plus HST. All prices are on the Pricing page.
The topcoat does not add meaningful thickness and it is not what protects the bed from dents and scrapes. That job belongs to the polyurea underneath, which is identical in both finishes. Think of the topcoat as the part that keeps the bed looking the way it did on pickup day.
Who should choose which
Standard makes sense if
- The truck is mostly a work tool and appearance is secondary.
- It lives in a garage or under a tonneau cover.
- You would rather put the $190 toward extras like bumpers or rocker panels.
UV makes sense if
- The truck sits outside in a driveway or at the cottage all summer.
- You plan to keep it a long time and want the bed to stay dark.
- You care how it looks when you go to sell it.
What about colour?
If you want something other than black, colour beds use a tinted topcoat. Colour adds $495, or $545 on an 8 ft bed. It takes three days: the liner goes on day one, the topcoat on day two, and the truck goes home on day three.
Quick answers
Can I add the UV topcoat later?
Possibly, but it means another visit and more prep, so it is simpler to decide at booking.
Does the warranty change with the finish?
No. Every liner carries the same lifetime warranty against peeling, cracking or delamination. Impact, cutting and chemical damage are not covered, and normal fading of the standard finish is cosmetic.
Does it change drop-off day?
Not for standard or UV. Both are same-day. Read what happens on drop-off day for the details.
